I was doing a spot of DIY the other day in my little bedroom, we are decorating the room because we're expecting our first child so it's going to be our nursery. My wife and I were hanging the wallpaper most of the day and as I was taking a shower at the end of the day I noticed a red rash appearing on my forearms.
Water spots on my arms
The initial red rash on my arms then developed over the next few days into a collection of small water type spots on the inside of my arms. This appeared on both arms in the exact places the wallpaper paste would have touched. I've suffered with Eczema for years so I knew this was a different type of rash. I went to my local Pharmacist and showed it to them, they advised it was just a skin reaction to something. They gave me some allergy tablets to take over the next couple of weeks and also some skin allergy cream to put on the infected areas.
The next couple of weeks
It did start to look quite unsightly, especially with my arms being on show all the time. The next couple of weeks showed a massive improvement and the rash has nearly completely gone. Apparently wallpaper paste contains a fungaside which some peoples skin can have a reaction to, which is exactly what happened to me. I guess I'll have to pay someone to do any wallpapering for me in the future. Oh well, that gets me out of one more job anyway! |
